Positive Messages Get Results

Positive messages are a good way to enlist your teen's cooperation. Suppose your teen has been dawdling over schoolwork. You could say, "I hope you will finish your assignments and do a good job. Then we can watch a movie."

Of course, you could also say, "No homework, no movie." The message is the same. But one way feels like scolding. The other way feels like an invitation. Which would you rather hear?
