Teach Your Teen to Think Like a Genius

Let’s face it—most of us aren’t geniuses. But that doesn’t mean we all can’t use the same thinking skills that propelled people like Leonardo da Vinci to their greatest achievements.

Share these strategies for deeper thinking with your teen:

• Visualize. When Einstein was solving a problem, he used pictures and diagrams more than words. This helped him see a problem in a new way.
• Combine ideas in new ways. Austrian monk Gregor Mendel combined mathematics and biology to create a new science. Today’s study of genetics is the result of his creative vision.
• Find connections. An idea that works in one place may work in another. When Samuel Morse was inventing the telegraph, he came up with the idea of using relay stations for the signals after observing relay stations for horses.
