Look Into Summer Classes

Many teens have interest in more topics than they can fit into a school-year schedule. If your teen would like to pursue a subject in more depth, or try something completely different, a summer class may be a great option.

Does your teen plan to go to college? Extra classes might strengthen an application. Teens who plan to enter the work world can take classes in many job-related skills. Taking extra classes shows admissions officers and employers that your teen is willing to do a little bit more.

When considering summer classes for your teen, look for offerings from:

Area school districts. Your teen may be able to take a class over the summer and free up some time for other subjects during the school year.
Local community colleges. Here your teen will find many types of classes. Not all are academic. Cost is usually reasonable. Check with the financial office to see if assistance is available.
Your town, city or county. Many local governments offer in-person and online classes. That’s especially true of larger areas. Some may be run by the parks and recreation office. Check out websites, or call or write for a list or catalog.
