Help Your Teen Resolve Problems Before Next Year
It has been a challenging few years for students. Maybe your teen has become disengaged and no longer seems interested in doing well in school.
You may be disappointed. But the important thing now is to take action to help your teen have a better year next year.
Here’s how:
- Send your teen clear messages. Emphasize that education is very important. Say that you believe your teen can succeed in school. Remind your student that a new school year is a fresh start.
- Get your teen’s opinion. Pick a time when you are both relaxed. Ask what your teen thinks the problem is.
- Contact your teen’s counselor. Get suggestions for helping your teen reconnect with school.
- Call your doctor if you suspect that your teen may be depressed or have a physical problem.
- Work with your teen on a plan for improvement. What does your teen think would motivate more effort? Have your teen set a few learning goals you can both live with. Write down steps for reaching these goals.
