Focus on Study Area Organization

Today is National Clean-Off-Your-Desk Day. If your teen doesn’t have an organized space to do schoolwork, encourage organization now!

Students can spend up to a third of their study time looking for misplaced items. This is time they could be learning. To prevent wasted time, your teen should have a clear desk or tabletop. There should be enough room to spread out papers and books. Pencils and other necessary supplies should be within arm’s reach. If your teen works at the kitchen table, neatly organized school supplies can go in a box or basket nearby.

Encourage your teen to:

A tidy study area will help your teen feel in control and ready to tackle assignments. Suggest making these organization steps part of your teen's daily routine from this day forward. These positive work habits serve students well in school and later in the workplace.
