Boost Your Teen's School Success By Staying Involved

Now that you have a student in the higher grades, you may be wondering how to stay involved in your child's education. With assignments you may not understand and a teen who may not want you around at school, it can be challenging. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try!

Your involvement is just as important now as it was in elementary school. Here are some ways to support your teen's school success:

• Make sure your teen has a regular time for studying. Find quiet work of your own to do nearby during that time. Your teen will sense your support even if you can't help with specific subjects.
• Promote school attendance. Falling behind by even a day can be costly, so make sure your teen attends every class, every day. Talk about the importance of school regularly.
• Get involved with a school activity, such as the parent-teacher organization. If you'd like to get involved but aren't sure where to start, just call the school and ask!
