Use a Chart to Help Your Teen Manage Time
Middle and high school students should be learning to plan their own study time. Families can help. Here are some ways to boost your student's time management skills:
- Have your teen calculate the time available in a week for activities, including studying. (There are 168 hours in the week. Your teen should subtract time for sleeping, eating and going to school. There should be roughly 50 hours left.)
- Encourage your teen to keep a time chart for one week. It should include what your teen does during each of these remaining hours.
- Discuss the best times for your teen to study. When there are the fewest distractions? When is your teen most alert?
- Have your teen plan the next week's study schedule based on insights from the time chart.
