Have Your Teen Set Specific Goals and Write Them Down

Now is the perfect time to have your teen set specific goals for the new school year. The first step to take in achieving those goals is to write them down. There's something about seeing the words on paper that helps students start to move a goal from a dream to reality.

Encourage your teen to post academic goals in a visible spot—on a bedroom door, above a workspace, or near the TV or computer (to remind your student to quit staring at screens and start doing schoolwork). Then help your teen make a list of the steps necessary to achieve those goals. After completing each step, your teen can cross it off the list. The shorter list is a visible reminder that your student is making progress toward the final goal.
