Make Study Sessions Frequent and Short

Brain researchers say that students can learn more in two 20-minute study sessions than in one 40-minute session. That means your teen may study more efficiently by breaking up learning into several small blocks of time.

Help your student plan a schedule that allows for studying for a test over several days, instead of waiting until the night before. Encourage your teen to take a short break after about 20 minutes of focusing on one subject before returning to it. Or your student could switch subjects—after reviewing French vocabulary for 20 minutes, take 20 minutes to work on math and then return to French.
