Make Watching Screen Media a Writing Activity

Watching TV and movies is usually a passive activity for teens. They aren't required to think much or interact a lot with other people.

To change this, ask your teen to write about what's on the screen. Your student could write a plot summary, a character analysis or even fan fiction based on the show. After you read your teen's work, talk about the shows.

Writing about shows will help your teen get more out of screen time. And if the writing makes watching shows seem like a chore rather than an amusement, your teen may watch less. That will free up more time for exercise, reading and engaging in other positive screen-free activities.
