Help Your Teen Set a Study Schedule

Students don't have to study at the same time every day. But having and following a schedule is the best way to ensure that homework gets done—and done well.

It's best if your teen creates the schedule. Your student is more likely to go by it if you don't impose it.

Suggest that your teen:

• Put all commitments on a calendar to help visualize the time available. When scheduling, your teen should make schoolwork a priority.
• Be realistic about the amount of time needed to complete each task.
• Select times to study when fatigue won't be an issue.
• Schedule the same minimum length of study time every night.
• Plan ways to avoid distractions, such as the TV or a phone.
