Develop New Family Rituals With Your Teen

How does your family celebrate birthdays? What do you do when someone in the family has accomplished something? How do you support each other when times are tough?

Family rituals can be part of the glue that holds families together. And that connection supports your teen in school.

Ask your teen to help you develop some simple family rituals. Use them to help you spend more time together. For example, if you don’t have the habit of preparing or going out for a special breakfast from time to time—just you and your teen—consider making that a monthly ritual. Or see if there's a way you and your teen can schedule regular exercise time together.

If your rituals can involve spending time outdoors, so much the better. Teens spend so much of their time focused entirely on themselves that they need to remember there’s a great big world around them.
