Help Your Teen Make Good Promises & Follow Through
A huge part of being responsible is actually doing what we say we’re going to do. To behave responsibly toward others, we first have to learn to be responsible to ourselves.
Here are some things your teen can do to help her keep the promises she makes to herself. Be a good role model and try them along with her:
- Do something you’ve been putting off. Have your teen choose one of those things that’s been on her to-do list for at least a week and do it today.
- Take one step toward a healthier lifestyle. She might be inclined to say something like, “Tomorrow I’ll get up at six a.m. and have a healthy breakfast. Then I’ll jog for an hour. No more fast food for lunch, and I’ll cook dinner from scratch.” While that would be great, it may not be realistic. How about you both just start with the healthy breakfast and make it a habit?
