Checklists Cure the ‘I Forgot!’ Syndrome

Your teen can’t complete and turn in her assignments on time if she’s forgotten to bring home what she needs, if she doesn't understand what she's being asked to do, or if she isn't sure when the work is due.

Teach your teen to complete a checklist before the end of the school day. She can keep it in her phone, or tape it to the inside cover of the notebook she uses for her last class. It should include items that address some of these questions:

  1. Do I understand all assignments and due dates?
  2. Do I have all necessary books, notebooks, materials and supplies?
  3. Have I talked to or seen any necessary people?
  4. Have I reviewed my to-do list?
