Help Ease the Pain of Feeling Unpopular
Think back to your adolescent days. You probably remember the names, or at least the faces, of the “popular” kids.
Popularity is just as important to today's kids as it was in the past. And when a student feels unpopular, it’s painful.
Here are some ways you can support your teen:
- Talk with your teen about her feelings. Reassure her that she’s worthy of friendship and that she has a lot to offer. Remind her of her strengths, such as kindness and a sense of humor.
- Build friendship skills. Talk with your teen about ways to make friends, such as introducing herself. Suggest ways she could improve the friendships she has. For example, “I bet Hailey would like it if you listened to her suggestions more often.”
- Encourage new friendships. Suggest that your teen invite a classmate to do something with your family.
