No Homework Again? Find Out Why

If your teen never seems to do homework, and you know his teachers are assigning it, he may have one of these common problems:

• He is afraid to take the time to gather his books and supplies for fear of missing the school bus.
• Peers are teasing him about being a conscientious student.
• His books are heavy and he has a long walk home.
• He has lost a book and he doesn’t want anyone to find out.
• He isn't checking the online notices for his class.

When you have time to talk calmly, ask your teen why he’s not working on assignments at home. Ask specific questions about what happens at the end of the school day.

Treat this as a chance to solve problems and not a time to be critical. When you identify the problem, you can help your teen take steps to solve it.
