Is Your Family Functioning Well?

What is the definition of a “normal” family? There’s probably no such thing. But most experts agree there are signs that a family is functioning well.

Here are six of those signs:

  1. Laughter and fun are a regular part of family life.
  2. Family members communicate well. They show love, respect and trust, even during difficult times.
  3. Household rules are clear and consistent. They are also flexible enough to change with the family’s needs.
  4. Parents and kids set personal goals and are able to meet most of them. They also feel their needs are being met.
  5. Natural family changes don’t cause big problems. As the family matures, members adjust.
  6. Family members have reasonable expectations of one another. And these expectations are usually met.
