Say 'I love you' Without Words
Your teen may cringe when you say “I love you” in front of his friends. But there are hundreds of ways to express your love for him without saying those words.
Here are just a few:
- Stay awhile and watch the next time you drop your teen off for athletic or other practice.
- Stop doing what you’re doing to listen to your teen.
- Laugh at your teen’s jokes.
- Ask about your teen’s daily activities.
- Say, “I know you can do it.”
- Insist on eating at least one meal a day together.
- Watch your teen’s favorite shows with him from time to time and listen to his music. Try to find something positive in them.
- Create a photo gallery displaying pictures of your teen throughout his life.
- Share what makes you happy and what causes stress in your life.
- Ask for your teen's advice and help sometimes.
- Help your teen set and meet goals.
- Be on time to pick up your teen from school and other outings.
- Plan special time just for you and your teen.
- Notice the good things about your teen’s friends.
- Say, “I trust you.”
