You Don’t Have to Solve All Your Teen’s Problems

Sometimes when your teen has a problem, she really needs your help. But other times, she just needs you to say, “I can imagine how upset you must be.”

With those words, you let your teen know that you understand that she is feeling some real sadness or frustration. That gives her some choices. She can tell you more about it, ask for your help or begin to look for a solution on her own. You'll let her know you care, and you won't undermine her confidence by solving a problem for her that she is capable of solving for herself.
