Help Your Teen Make a Difference

Teens are often focused on their own needs and wants. Doing things for other people can help them understand that it is also important to consider the needs of others.

Help your teen find ways to benefit the community and the people around him. Could he organize or participate in a community art project or help clean up a park? Suggest that he think about the needs of people in your neighborhood. Are there people without computers who could use help signing up online for a vaccination appointment? Perhaps your teen could volunteer. Are there local issues your teen feels strongly about? Encourage him to see what he can do to help organizations that are working on solving them.

When your teen works for the benefit of others, he also develops a better understanding of his own value to the world at large.
