Tell Your Child What to Do ... Not What Not to Do

“Don't forget your jacket.” “Don't run in the street.” Sometimes, it seems like adults have to fill children's heads with all the things they're not supposed to do.

But young children often don't hear the word Don't. Eliminate that problem by turning your directions around and telling your child what to do instead:

"Take your jacket. Stay on the sidewalk."
