Make a Poster to Keep Goals in Sight

When Benjamin Franklin was young, he noticed that some people seemed to be happier—and more successful—than others. He observed that these seemed to be the people with clear goals.

So Franklin sat down and wrote a list of his most important goals. One example: "Lose no time." He carried the list with him wherever he went. It was a constant reminder of what was most important in his life.

To help your child to follow Franklin's example:

  1. Get some bright poster board and some markers.
  2. Help your child think about two or three learning goals.
  3. Have your child design a colorful poster that spells out these goals. Hang it in a prominent place.

The poster will provide a daily reminder of your elementary schooler's goals. When your child achieves a goal, it's time for a celebration—and then it's time to set some new goals and make a new poster.
