Numbers are all around us. Try this fun activity to help your young child recognize them.
Choose a number: for example, 12. Say it out loud, and write it on a piece of paper. Now challenge your elementary schooler to find that number somewhere in your home. Your child may find it on the clock or on a can in your pantry. Talk about what the number represents in that context. Then it’s your child's turn to send you on a number hunt by writing down a number for you to find.
When children are learning place value, this is a fun way to reinforce the concept. You might say, “Find a number that has a 2 in the tens place.”
