Sing Songs for Fun—and to Teach Geography, Too

Your family may sing for fun or to pass the time on a long trip. But did you ever think of singing to learn about geography?

Many songs are about specific places. As you sing songs such as “This Land is Your Land,” talk about the places that are mentioned. Help your child look them up on a map.

Other songs can teach about foreign countries. “London Bridge is Falling Down” is about a real bridge in London, England—one version of which is now in Arizona! “Sur Le Pont d’Avignon” is about a bridge in France. Help your child find out more about them.

Can you think of other songs that can help your child learn geography? What songs can your child think of that mention states or cities?
