You Don't Need to Have All the Answers

Sometimes, parents worry that if they can't answer all their children's questions, their kids won’t respect them. But that isn't true. Kids actually respect parents more when they are honest and say, “I don’t know. Let’s find the answer.”

It is also not necessary to answer every question your child asks immediately. If your elementary schooler wants to talk to you about your views on a controversial topic while you’re trying to make a left turn in traffic, it’s OK to say, “You know, that’s a really difficult question. I’d like a little time to think about my answer. How about getting together after dinner?” Then follow through.
