Reduce Reminders With a Responsibility Routine

How can parents get kids to do schoolwork and chores without having to remind them multiple times? Routines make it easier for children to fulfill their responsibilities.

Make a schedule to help your family run more smoothly. The schedule should include regular times for doing schoolwork and studying, reading, household chores and free time.

With a routine in place, your elementary schooler will know that there's no screen time until your child has:

For a smooth chore routine, make a list of chores for your student to complete and when they should be done. Have your child check off the chore when the job is completed.

Explain that if your child doesn’t complete schoolwork or chores without being reminded, they will be automatically rescheduled to your child's free time. It probably won't take long before your child does them according to the routine.
