Help Your Child Learn From Mistakes

Everybody makes mistakes. It took famed inventor Thomas Edison hundreds of tries before he found the right material to make a light bulb. But with each failure, Edison learned what wouldn't work. And he also learned things that led him to discover what would eventually work.

Help your elementary schooler see mistakes as opportunities to learn. If your child makes a mistake, ask, "What do you know now that you didn't before?" Ask what your child would do differently the next time. Experience can be a good teacher, but sometimes you have to make sure your child is paying attention to the lesson.
