School Attendance Improves Outcomes

It seems obvious to say that kids need to attend class to learn. But studies continually show just how important attendance really is.

Children with poor attendance consistently score worse on state and national tests of reading and math skills. And the problem starts early. Absenteeism in preschool and kindergarten can have an effect on a child's success in third grade. Later on, students who are frequently absent are more likely to dropout than their peers with strong attendance.

The good news is that when absences are reduced, the students can make academic gains.

Teachers can't teach kids who aren't in class. And students who fall behind have a difficult time catching up. Make sure your child starts school on time, every day.
