Be an 'Askable' Parent

Children are naturally curious about birth, death, sex, drugs and everything else in the world. They are full of questions—and they will seek answers to all of them.

Being an "askable" parent is the best way to ensure that you will be your child's primary source of information and values.

You know you're an askable parent if you:

Tell your child you want to answer questions.
Never punish, tease or judge your child for asking questions.
Never avoid sensitive or embarrassing topics. If you don't have a ready answer, ask for time to think about it, then get back to your child.
Respond to questions with words and actions that say, "I'm so glad you asked!"
