Children get more out of schoolwork when parents monitor and discuss their efforts.
To monitor effectively, do a "Five Minute Achievement Check." Each day, give at least five minutes of your full attention to any schoolwork your child brings home. Make it a point to:
Throughout all steps, be objective, sympathetic, calm and patient. Offer help and praise instead of criticism. Stress that you know your child can overcome any temporary setbacks.
