Make a Vocabulary Word Story

Some kids find it challenging to learn new vocabulary words. One way to help is by having your child turn a word list into a piece of creative writing.

Each week, make up two characters and a topic sentence. "A child and a chicken strolled to the store." Ask your child to write the rest of the story using the words of the week.

Creating the story will help your child put the words into context. That makes it easier for students to remember their definitions. Writing the story out will let your child practice both spelling and handwriting skills. The pride that comes from reading the story to the family is an added bonus.
