Take Time Out for Family
After the pandemic slowdown, the pace of life seems to have sped back up. As a result, many parents feel frazzled and rushed. What can you do to help your family find more time for togetherness? Here are some tips:
- Use time outs. You probably use the "time out" technique when your child needs to stop and think about some misbehavior. Try using a whole family "time out" to stop and think how your family could function better. Talk about what you'd like to do as a family. Discuss how you can make these dreams a reality.
- Set specific goals. If you always seem to be rushing from activity to activity, stop and think about what you really want. Perhaps your weekly goal will be four family dinners eaten together, two nights of helping with schoolwork, and one breakfast with your child. Write your goals down and post them where you will all see them.
- Remember that childhood doesn't last forever. That knowledge may help you set some of your own priorities for how you'll spend your time. Build in more family time now—you'll have time for other activities later on. Many experts say that for children, "love" can be spelled T-I-M-E.
