Reach Out to the Teacher If Your Child Struggles With Assignments

When your child is fussing that an assignment is "stupid," how do you know if you should contact the teacher? Get in touch with the teacher if your child:

• Won't do assigned work, even though you've tried your best to provide motivation.
• Regularly finds assignments too hard or too easy.
• Needs supplies you can't provide.
• Doesn't understand assignment instructions, even with your help.

When you talk with the teacher, explain what you are seeing. Keep an open mind when the teacher responds. Then together, list solutions you agree on and plan to follow up.
