Encourage Your Child to Promote Kindness

Children aren't always kind to one another. They pick on other kids. They say mean things behind people's backs.

But your child doesn't have to accept that unkindness as the norm. Instead, encourage your student follow a simple rule: Do something about it.

If your child witnesses a classmate being treated unkindly or left out, brainstorm together about possible actions to take. Your child could:

Challenge your child to do at least one kind thing for a classmate each week and report to you on what it was. How did it doing something nice for someone else make your child feel?

These actions teach many lessons. Your child will learn how good it feels to do something positive to help another person. More importantly, your student will learn that when something wrong is happening, it isn't necessary to accept it. Instead, your child has the power to take action and make a difference.
