Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Are you tired of barking out orders all day? No wonder. If you're like most parents, you spend a lot of time telling your child what to do—and then repeating yourself.

To help your child take responsibility for doing what's right, stop telling and start doing. Instead of saying over and over, "Empty your pockets before putting your pants in the laundry basket," take action. If you are sure that your child understands the behavior you want to see, wash only the pants with empty pockets. When a favorite pair of pants doesn't get washed, your child will have to wear less-liked pants to school. Next time, your student just might be more motivated to do the right thing.
