Completing Assignments Gets the Weekend Off to a Great Start

Sometimes, teachers assign reading or other schoolwork over the weekend. And many kids put it off. That means they have tasks hanging over their heads all weekend. And on Sunday night, there's often a meltdown when it's time to get the work done.

Avoid the problem by having your child finish assignments early in the weekend. Classwork and discussions will still be fresh in your student's mind, so the assigned work will probably take less time. And if a task or project needs more time, your child will be able to avoid rushing in a panic.

To encourage this habit, give your child a small reward for completing assignments before dinner on Friday. Get the family together to play a favorite board game. Serve a fun dessert. Or push back bedtime a little bit. When your child gets work done early, the whole family will have a better weekend.
