Make Screen Time a Learning Adventure

For most families, frequent trips to far-flung places around the globe aren't in the budget. But if your child is the sort who loves adventure, you can "visit" these places together online. That's just one of the ways you can use digital media to expand your child's world.

Endless passive screen time isn't good for students. But when you manage digital media thoughtfully, you can use it to:

Foster creativity. Help your child find websites or TV shows that demonstrate how to make things. Provide glue, scissors and other supplies. Then allow time to work on projects.
Promote family ties. Go online to learn more about family history or your child's heritage. Help your child create digital family photo albums and slideshows.
Encourage organization. Help your child set up a calendar on a computer or your phone.
Motivate thinking. Look for TV shows or websites that will introduce your child to new ideas. Take time to talk about them together.
