Give Your Child the Courage to Try Activities, Face Fears
It takes courage to do well in school. Students may have to read to the class, perform in a concert, express their thoughts out loud, or tackle other assignments or activities that challenge them.
To help your child develop the courage to face challenges and try new things:
- Read together about people who use inner strength.
- Explain that courage isn't about being physically strong. It's not bullying or being boastful. It's about motivating yourself to tackle challenges.
- Praise your child's everyday acts of inner strength and courage.
- Encourage your child to express feelings and fears. Sometimes getting them out in the open makes them seem easier to tackle.
- Encourage your child to try new activities and not worry about failing. If your child learns from a failure, it can be a helpful step on the road to success.
