Balance Your Child's Schedule
Schoolwork, outside activities, family time and free time all contribute to your child's growth and development. But maintaining a healthy balance between them is important. Don't feel you must cram everything your child has missed during the pandemic into this year.
If fitting everything in is a struggle:
- Cut down on the number of different extracurricular activities. Instead, allow your child to explore just one or two in depth.
- Decrease the overall amount of time your child spends on structured activities. Children need enough free time to play, read and explore ideas on their own.
- Avoid adding pressure when your child plays sports or practices music. Getting upset about a missed pass or wrong note can keep your student from enjoying the activity.
- Make time for family. Just "hang out" and talk. Schedule a regular family night so you can connect and build supportive relationships.
