Let Your Child Teach You Technology Skills

Young people are great at picking up the latest technology. And it reinforces their skills when they teach them to others. So when you are working at the computer, ask your child to help.

If there's something you're not sure about, whether it's attaching a document to an email or using a new app, your child may be able to figure out what you need to do. Even if you know what you're doing, ask for help sometimes anyway.

Or the next time your child is at a computer, ask if you can watch. If your student does something clever, ask questions. "What did you just do? Can you show me how to do it?" You can also ask your child to take on some technological tasks for the family, such as helping you research an important purchase, for example.

There are two benefits that come from this kind of one-on-one computer learning. First, taking on the role of teacher will help your child gain confidence. Second, you may learn useful skills you can put to use right away.
