Keep Anger Out of Discipline

When your child misbehaves, it is important to let him know. Understanding what they did wrong is how children learn. But nothing is accomplished if you get angry when trying to discipline your child. If you are out of control, you can’t teach him what he needs to learn. Instead, calmly let him know how his misbehavior affects you.

Try using this three-step process:

  1. Describe the behavior that is unacceptable.
  2. Tell your child how it makes you feel when he does that.
  3. Explain why the behavior bothers you.
