Keep on Teaching Persistence

Perseverance is hard work. But putting in the effort to develop the habit now will help your child achieve in school and life. To keep your elementary schooler on the right track, tell him often, “You’re never a failure until you stop trying.” “Losing a battle doesn’t mean you’ve lost the war.” “Press on. You’re going to make it. “ “What else could you try? ”

You can also talk about a time when you wanted to give up but didn’t—and overcame an obstacle. Or tackle challenging activities like crossword puzzles or jigsaw puzzles together—and don’t quit until they're complete.
