Nurture Your Child's Social Confidence

Swooping in and saving your child from social challenges won't help her learn to navigate them. Instead, develop her social survival skills.

Here are two ways:

  1. Listen when she tells you about a problem. Ask questions like "What did you do next?" This lets her know that she can act to affect the outcome of social situations.
  2. Teach her to speak up for herself. When she wants something, ask her to make a case for it. Or have a few family debate nights.
