The 'Anytime Shelf' Teaches Good Nutrition

Research has proven the truth in the old saying, "You are what you eat." But how can you teach your child to choose nutritious foods?

Start by recognizing that your child may need to snack. (It's hard to concentrate when you are hungry!) Then, to help him make healthy snack food choices, create an "anytime shelf" in your refrigerator.

Stock the shelf with a selection of ready-to-eat, nutritious snacks. Some possible foods include carrot sticks, broccoli "trees," chunks of melon, cheese cubes or raisins. When your child is hungry, he will know he is always free to help himself to the food on that special shelf in the refrigerator. Rotate items to keep things interesting.

Your child will like making his own food choices and you'll be happy knowing that he is always making nutritious selections!
