Teach Your Child That Effort is What Counts

You want your child to do her best in school. So it's important to let her know the value you place on effort.

For instance, when your child shows you a test score with a high grade, don’t just say "Hooray!" Instead, say, "I know how hard you studied. Your hard work really paid off."

When your child finishes reading a book, you can say, "You made a real effort to finish that book. I'm proud of you."

Be sure to recognize your child's efforts even when they may not have resulted in success. Celebrate progress, and encourage her to learn from her mistakes and keep trying.
