Build Your Child's Attention Span
Experts say the brain development that helps children pay attention begins early. This development often continues until around age 10. That means paying attention is something your child can get better at with practice.
Here are some ways you can help:
- Read aloud together every day. Make it a family ritual.
- Play games or do projects that require your child to sit still, listen carefully, describe something in detail or remember an event.
- Give your child short, clear instructions and ask her to repeat and then follow them.
- Talk to your child often without interruptions or distractions.
- Watch your child’s diet. Diet plays a part in her ability to concentrate. Strive to serve healthy meals with lean protein and plenty of fruits and vegetables.
