Play Grocery Games With Your Child

If you must bring your child with you to the grocery store, encourage learning by doing some grocery activities together.

To make the lessons fun, turn them into a game. You might ask a young child to name things that are round … or red … or square. Ask an older child to find items that go together. "Who sees something that goes with peanut butter?"

Ask questions that help your child practice math. If one can costs 39 cents, how much will two cans cost? How much change will be left from a dollar?

Children who play grocery learning games can be rewarded. Allow your child to add a favorite fruit to your shopping cart.
