Make Your Expectations Clear

Parents communicate their expectations to children in many ways—by what they say, how they act and how they react to others. Kids pick up on these signs and they are likely to fulfill their parents' expectations. Think about what you expect of your child with regard to the effort she should be putting into schoolwork, how much education she should get (finishing high school? college?), how much she should be reading, how she should cooperate with teachers and others. Set your expectations high, and express them to your child clearly, consistently and often.
