Motivate Writing With Interesting Activities
Writing is a skill children learn by doing. And the more they do of it, the better their writing gets.
To encourage your child’s enthusiasm for writing practice, give her lots of interesting writing activities. Here are two to start with:
- Have your child pretend she is an object. She can be a mirror, a soccer ball, a rocking chair, a frying pan. Have her write a story about her life as the object. Make sure she gives herself a name, describes what she looks like, what she sounds like, where she lives and what a typical day in her life is like.
- Have your child write her name vertically. Then have her use each letter of her name to start the line of a poem about herself:
NANCY
Never nasty
Aims high
Nature lover
Collects rocks
Yearns for ice cream.
